Looks can deceive

Take a look at this piece of walking fashion pollution. Wouldn't you guess that she is a fun loving sort what with her crazy glasses and dueling stripes? She was happy to catch beads but when the Tucks krewe came by and tossed their signature toilet paper through the air, she seemed mighty displeased and in a huff, picked it up and marched over to the closest trash can. Just goes to prove that you can make no assumptions based on appearance.

A new Mardi Gras economy

created for FREE at www.pizap.com

It is called the largest free show in the world but during Mardi Gras, one of the most valuable things is access to a restroom. Zion Lutheran on St. Charles Avenue cashes in the supply/demand. And looka, their sign shows a price increase from last year.
And yes, this photo was taken by me. My favorite online photo editing service, Snipshot, just dropped their free service so I used pizap today. Now experimenting with Picnik. Anyone have a favorite photo editing suggestion?

Take a gander at this pic I snapped at the Grace Episcopal church on Canal Street. They are offering beer and brownies but they have a value added item. FREE PortALets! They are making money off the front end but being a good neighbor by preventing idiots from peeing in the MidCity alleys. Yep, that was Ernest and me last year peeing behind the wooden gate.

And here is proof of the growing Latino influence in New Orleans.

Fights and arguments

Once heard a counselor say that when a couple fights, they are revealing their insecurities. Take time to recognize what the fight is about and the underlying concern will be revealed.

He rides her ass about spending? He may be afraid they won't have enough money in their elder years and might lose the house and their independence. She bitches because he comes home late after having a couple beers with the guys? She may feel insecure and fear he will find a new woman and leave her.

It made a lot of sense but now kinda takes the fun out of watching marital fights in movies because you know what comes next.

Quote of the day

Brother Rollo and I were talking about folks that off themselves and I remembered talk of the Hemlock Society so Googled it and came across this funny sentence. It brings so many great scenarios to my mind.

"One should say goodbye before the bag is pulled over the head since, once the flow of gas begins, "the helium makes the voice sound like Donald Duck."

Just for you

Janis Joplin

I love Janis Joplin.
I love that she had a distinctive voice when that wasn't the style of the day.
I love that she embraced hippie fashion and made it her own.
I love that Southern Comfort folks sent her a fur coat to thank her for the product exposure.
I love that she wore her fur coat proudly.
I love that she gave co-writing credit for "Mercedes Benz" and surprised the co-author with a mailed royalty check.
I love that she was the first female rock chick.

But this album cover just floors me. Say it ain't so.

THIS is Janis.

Pedicures for the recession

Here are a few tips for stretching your pedicure budget:
  • get the full pedicure and in two weeks, return to your friendly nail salon for a polish change. Salon tech removes old polish and your toes get a new color! Polish change usually runs $7 to $10. This tip is courtesy of my friend Elizabeth.
  • several days after a new polish change or pedicure, add a fresh layer of clear topcoat to prolong color protection. Clear shiny finish makes a dull toe look new!
  • here is my super lazy girl home pedicure tip: polish your toes before a shower, paying no special attention to precision or neatness. After shower, use a wet washcloth to remove dried polish from skin around toenails. Follow with clear coat.
  • manicures and pedicures can usually be improved with a quick application of moisturizer or cuticle oil

Wishing you happy toes and shiny toes,

I am,

SkitzoLeezra
