Beware of free

My good friends gave me their old laptop computer last year and I took it home, wondering if I would even use it because I ditched my desktop years ago. Typically, there are too many other things/projects at home to distract me plus I have a computer at work. Wrong.
Fast forward to this week when my laptop's hard drive crashed. I fell for the c'mon that every drug dealer offers: First one's free. Now, I am jonesin' just like a meth addict. I can hardly watch TV without multi-tasking on the computer.
Sad and mad,
all at the same time,

I didn't do much multi-tasking until I got my IPhone 3G last month. Now I always find something to check even while fast forwarding through the commercials on my HD tivo. I have a second Tivo in front of my treadmill so when an email comes in on the IPhone, I stop the treadmill and put the tivo in pause and then check the email. Usually it is from Comcast, BJ's or Sears. Today I've decided I have to give up the multi-tasking in order to have a more peaceful lifestyle. So far I found giving up smoking in 1975 easier.

I hear ya, Charlie!
I upgraded my newest Sirius radio because it offered pause, replay and fast forward - because TiVo spoiled me with those features. Now, if I could find a human mute button OR a "are you sure you want to say that?" pause for my own unfiltered mouth.

You must have the Stiletto. I got it about two years ago so I could listen to Jay Thomas during my overnight shift in my car. I don't like waiting for commercial breaks to end so that ended that problem. I hardly listen or watch anything in real time. The tivo gives me a hour program viewing time of less than 45 minutes. I wish I could apply that technology to some of my friends boring stories. I'd love to fast forward to the end and then hit delete. The Stiletto was well worth the upgrade.

I purchased the Sportster 5 that fits in my vehicle and boombox. DUDE, if only I could fast forward the windbags! Here's my convo stopper when yentas moan and groan about child care, etc., "Why are you telling me this?"
They usually reply that they don't know. They just get wound up and it is my job to shut it down (or up).

We have friends that adopted a baby from China two years ago. They somehow come into Starbucks to have coffee every Saturday morning when we are there. Then, whatever we were talking about is kicked to the curb and it becomes all about their baby. This has been going on for a long time. Usually we leave and let them continue their baby talk. I finally mentioned that it is now fashionable for people of means to go to a foreign country and "buy" a baby. Talk about a conversation stopper. The mother no longer comes with the baby. The husband still comes but I think he is on the brink of divorce. Now we can talk about the economy and other things most adults talk about over coffee.
