Thank you, Tangipahoa Parish Justice of the Peace Keith Bardwell, for perpetuating the Great State of Louisiana's tarnished image as idiots and bigots and fertile home for backward thinking. When you refused to marry an interracial couple, you revealed yourself to be the epitome of what is wrong of our state. And now, you announce "It's kind of hard to apologize for something that really and truly down in your heart you don't feel you've done wrong. I don't regret what I did and if it ever came up again, I'd have to do the same thing" and "I stand by my decision and it is my right not to marry an interracial couple."
Governor Jindal says it is a clear violation of constitutional rights and is calling for an investigation. Let's hope it is not politics as usual in this state and you are removed from your elected position, Mr. Bardwell.
Shame on you and anyone small enough to agree.

yee.....aaahhhh.... that was even a topic up here..so yeah its national...he will be sued and lose his job soon...no doubt....
I have to say - it is his choice not to do so. Just like some people doesn't drink alcohol or eat octopus...their choice.
Sorry, Kim, it is NOT his choice. He is charged to fulfill the duties WITHOUT PREJUDICE. His is an elected position and though he isn't required to agree with interracial marriage, he does have to do his job.
He didn't so -- bye, bye!
I like to call it the Good Ol' Boy system - it is still very much alive in the South.
Skitzoleezra, You are sooooooo right about the JP. He had a job to perform (which he swore to uphold under the Constitution) and refused because he's a flat-out racist. (Please see some of my earlier blogs.) I'm so sick of this Good Ol' Boy system Kimberly above mentioned. Yes, it's very much alive in the South (but more coded these days, if you know what I mean). The JP needs to resign! Yes, he made Louisiana look very, very bad. I also have relatives in Tan. who are embarrassed.
Thanks for your gracious comment and for signing up to become a Follower. You made my day! No, I've never pinched a pumpkin. But I did go out and buy three more happy pumpkins and all's well, even prettier than before. You're right about the karma bit. Thanks!
